In March 2020, Submarines for Australia, supported by an eminent group of experts, made a submission to the Joint Committee on Public Accounts and Audit in the Australian Parliament.

The Submission argued that the current acquisition strategy for 12 French-designed Attack class submarines was highly risky, extremely expensive and with a delivery schedule that was far too late in the context of the strategic circumstances confronting Australia today. It also seems likely to undermine Australia’s current sovereign capability in submarine construction and maintenance because of a likely inadequate level of Australian industry content.

The Submission also provides a possible way forward by developing a comprehensive risk mitigation strategy.
